WELCOME to Libro de Signos all Spanish Dawah Website, where the goal is to Explain, Educate, and Invite all Spanish-Speaking people to Islam.
This page is to allow you to have an idea as to what we’re doing. We are a division of Al Furqaan Foundation, 501(c)3 non-profit dawah organization, where we realized the need to cater towards the Spanish-speaking people in America. Thus comes Libro De Signos Fundaciõn, where we will develop, produce and provide material in print, digital and multimedia formats for effective dawah to the Spanish speaking community. Additionally we will facilitate and be a resource to organizations engaged in dawah activities around the country.
The Spanish speaking community (Hispanics/Latinos) is one of the fastest growing communities in the U.S. In 1997, the American Muslim Council counted approximately 40,000 Spanish-Speaking (Hispanic) Muslims. In 2004, the estimate ranged from 25,000 up to 75,000. According to Dr. Ihsan Bagby’s, “The Mosque In America: A National Portrait,” the average number of American reverts per mosque is approximately 16 persons per year. Dr. Bagby estimates an annual national growth of 20,000 reverts with 6% Spanish-Speaking (Hispanics). According to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates as of July 1, 2013, are roughly 54 million Spanish-Speaking people (Hispanics) living in the United States, representing approximately 17% of the U.S. total population, making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or race minority. Just in Illinois, from 2000 to 2010, the rate has gone up by 32.5%.
It is with these statistics in mind, Libro De Signos Fundaciõn (Book of Signs Foundation) was launched as a Spanish focused dawah division of Al-Furqaan Foundation. While there are “pockets” of efforts around the country to address this need, no nation-wide effort has developed a sustainable institutionalized infrastructure for Spanish speaking individuals. Such infrastructure demands moving beyond a volunteer based model to a consistent commitment of resources which at a minimum, includes Spanish speaking staff and quality material. Without such commitment, we feel that the Muslim community in the U.S. will be negligent in its duty of dawah to a significant population base. With your support and the leadership of Al-Furqaan Foundation, we hope to establish Libro De Signos Fundaciõn as a fard-e-kifaya for the Muslims in America.
